WHAT
IS A COUNSELING PSYCHOLOGIST?
Counseling psychologists have a Ph.D. and focus
on personal and interpersonal development across a lifetime. Through
the integration of theory, research and practice the counseling
psychologist works with their clients to alleviate stress, resolve
crises, and to learn more effective ways of dealing with life.
Counseling psychologists are trained to be sensitive
to multicultural issues and their expertise encompasses both normal
developmental issues as well as physical, emotional and mental disorders.
Counseling psychologists work in a variety of
settings, including: consultations with organizations; teaching
at the college level; research; therapy; achievement and intellectual
assessments; and academic administrative positions. |
